Javier Arguedas is a Costa Rican broadcast journalist. He is currently a news anchor in Deutsche Welle's Spanish service and a recurring reporter for DW News and Der Tag in DW's English and German services. He was Deutsche Welle's Latin America Correspondent in 2019, based in Bogotá, Colombia. In June 2016 he first joined the anchor teams of Deutsche Welle's (DW) business shows in Spanish and English. In his prior role as a TV correspondent at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2014, he reported daily for three of DW's television channels: "DW News" [in English], "DW (Amerika)" [in German] and "DW (Latinoamérica)" [in Spanish].
He began his career at Deutsche Welle in November 2011 as a Distribution Agent for DW (Latinoamérica). He was in charge of the distribution and coordination of marketing activities in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Puerto Rico and the US-Hispanic markets.
In 2010 he worked as a Project Manager at the AMIK Agency for Marketing and International Communication in Cologne, where he was in charge of Latin American delegation trips from the fields of economy, science and technology coming to Germany as part of several projects commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
He spent a semester abroad in Nantes, France, studying Information and Communication (Information et Communication) at the Université de Nantes in 2009.
Between 2005 and 2010, he studied Media Planning, Development and Consulting at the University of Siegen (Title: Dipl. Medien-Wirt / Equivalence: M.A. Media Manager).
In 2004 he began his journalism studies at the University of Costa Rica (UCR). During this period, he worked as a freelance editor of international news for the Costa Rican prime time newscast "Informe 11: Las Noticias" (now known as "NC Once") on Channel 11, part of Representaciones Televisivas S.A. (Repretel). He was also in charge of coordinating and producing Repretel's contributions to CNN/CNN en español's "World Report / El Mundo Informa".
He graduated from the German School of Costa Rica (Colegio Humboldt Schule). In his childhood, he lived in San José (Costa Rica) , Chicago (USA) and Cologne (Germany). He speaks Spanish, German, English and French.
